A daily reminder of sacrifice
Close to the beautiful late summer blooms and relative solitude of Kelowna's City Park, is a new installation that pedestrians and motorists can't help but notice.
The commemorative crosswalk at the corner of Abbott and Lawrence was recently unveiled.
It has been painted at the entrance to Veendam Gardens, beside the cenotaph where the community gathers each November.
A statement from the Mayor’s office said, in part, the crosswalk will serve as a daily reminder of the courage and sacrifice of veterans past and present.
The walkway offers twin maple leafs displayed onto the dark asphalt surface with an embossed message in both English and French: "In honour of those who served and sacrificed."
